Consequences of falls
Are often severe, resulting in a loss of independence, financial hardship, pain, permanent disabilities, limitations in activity, and a profound fear of falling again.
Fear of falling
Activities may become limited from fear of falling. As activity decreases, muscle strength and flexibility also decrease which increases the chance of falling.
Cost of falls
It is estimated that falls in Canada cost the health system 2.4 billion per year. Comparatively, motor vehicle accidents cost 345 million per year.
